Sir Gawain and the Green Knight Fit 2
1) Look at the progression of each stanza in this section and briefly list/discuss in order what every stanza is about.
At first there was a feast due to the victory of the attack at Troy. The green knight then comes and challenges someone to cut off his head, a little later, Gawain makes the choice to cut off the Green Knights head. Soon after Hallow Souls, Gawain starts his journey. Arthur gives him the shield of Gawain! This shield is important, because it represents; five senses, five fingers, five wounds of Christ, five joys of Mary, and fyft fyue(social virtue.) On his travels he arrives at a castle, and the king accepts him right away, making a bit suspicious. Gawain and Bertillon play a game! The old lady in the castle of Bertillon was dressed in green, same color as the Green Knight. Once Gawain leaves the castle, he goes to the Green Knight, throughout this, he finds out that this was just a GAME to find out whether Gawain was brave enough.
2) Look at the motif of games and discuss how it works in this section.
Gawain went for women for Bertillon to have, and Bertillon finds meat for Gawain, and when they trade, the person who gets the most WINS the game!!! Woohoo!
3) Other than the pentangle describe a symbol in this section and relate it to a theme. Discuss how this symbol reinforces the theme.
Green is a symbol. Usually green as an emotion stands for sick, but in this case, green is supposed to represent magic, and life.
4) How is Gawain different in this section as compared to the last?
He is more matured and brave. He started as an almost weak nephew of King Arthur.
5) Discuss the setting.

5) Discuss the setting.
The setting changes throughout the poem. Mainly it is supposed to represent the magic in the world, compared to the bravery of men. Since the setting changes from Christmas to Hallow Souls day. Being closer to Hallow Souls, there is more frightening events that are supposed to test Gawain's bravery.
